BALTIMORE, MD -
One of three NJIT squads to open their 2004-2005 seasons over the weekend, the men's fencing team split four dual matches on Sunday at Johns Hopkins University. The Highlanders defeated Virginia Tech, 16-11, and the University of Virginia, 19-8, while losing to the host Blue Jays, the only NCAA team besides NJIT in the field, 21-6, and the College of William and Mary, 19-8.
Senior Matt Edzenga (Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo) led all Highlanders with nine victories on the day at epee. The only other NJIT competitor with a winning record was freshman Andrew Pancoast (Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown), who was 7-5 in foil. The Highlanders have one more day of bouts in the fall semester, November 21 at Haverford College, when they will compete in three duals.
