NEWARK, NJ - Frank Carr, a senior at Monroe Township High School in New Jersey, has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue his soccer and academic career at New Jersey Institute of Technology, Highlander head coach Pedro Lopes announced today.
Carr, who was chosen Middlesex County Player of the Year by the Star-Ledger and Home News Tribune Athlete of the Year, amassed 24 goals and 14 assists in his senior year, helping lead Monroe Township to a 21-5 record and the championship of the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament.
Involved with a goal or an assist on nearly half his team's tallies in 2006, Carr was an all-state 2nd team honoree and 1st team all-Central Jersey and Most Valuable Player of the annual senior All-Star game.
He was a four-year varsity starter in high school and ranked among the top players in the state as a senior, recording seven multi-goal games and recording at least a point in 19 games.
"Frank typifies the image of a New Jersey soccer player--strong, technical and a blue-collar worker," said Lopes. "He is expected to fight for playing time right away."
NJIT will enter its third season of full NCAA Division I postseason championship eligibility for men's soccer in 2007.
In 2006, the Highlanders were 2-3-1 in Atlantic Soccer Conference play and were not eliminated from postseason consideration until the final conference game, when they lost on the road, 1-0, at eventual conference champion Adelphi, which later represented the ASC in the NCAA Division I College Cup field.
