FAIRFIELD, CT - Captain Mike Lawson won the men's 200-meter IM and the 100-meter breaststroke as visiting NJIT fell 115-72 in men's swimming at Fairfield on Saturday.

Lawson recorded 18 points for the Highlanders, as he finished with a time of 2:35.66 in the 200-meter IM and a time of 1:16.80 in the breaststroke setting a season-best.

Coach Eric Rasmussen added, "The Fairfield pool is 25 meters (as opposed to the usual 25 yards) so the times were a bit slower, but when converted we had some good swims."

Senior Hayk Ekshian had excellent swims in both the 50-freestyle and the 100-butterfly which if both times were converted they would be seasonal bests times for him.

James Paccioretti set a season-best in the 100-freestyle placing fourth with a time of 1:02.42.

"After a few weeks of our hardest training, this meet was a good test for us", said Rasmussen.

The NJIT men's swimming team returns to action on Saturday, January 26 when they compete in its first tri-meet of the 2008 season in Brooklyn, NY against Saint Francis (NY) and Howard.

The meet is scheduled for a 1pm start.
