NEW YORK - The New Jersey Institute of Technology men's swimming team opened its season with a 103-90 win at Baruch on Friday night.
NJIT collected seven first-place finishes on the night, posting wins in the 800 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 50 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 100 freestyle and breaststroke.
Swimming in the 25-meter pool at Baruch, four different Highlanders claimed top honors in four of the five individual freestyle events. Andrew Coslow took the 800 free at 10:50.19, while Brad Weidman was first in the 200, Steve Schreyer won the 50 (26.38) and Hayk Ekshian won the 100 (58.59). Coslow, Weidman and Schreyer are all freshmen, while Ekshian is a junior.
Junior captain Marc Ubaldi won the individual medley, while senior Edmund Lui was first in the 100 butterfly at 1:08.91. Ubaldi picked up another first-place for the Highlanders when he won the breaststroke at 1:11.40.
The Highlanders will host College of Staten Island on Monday, November 7 at 6 pm in the Fleisher Athletic Center pool.
