Oct. 21, 2007

NEW YORK, NY - Sophomore Alan Roberts kicked off his season with a win in his specialty, the 100-yard breaststroke, at the 2007 William McCarthy Invitational Swim Meet.

Roberts, who was in third place at the halfway mark, pulled even with the pack in the second 50 and powered his way to the win in the last few strokes. His time of 1:02.50 won the race by just over .2 seconds.

On the women's side, freshman Karen Cilento christened her college career with a win in the 50-yard freestyle. Her 26.95 ranks her as one of the fastest Highlanders on the all time top 50 yard freestyle list.

The host NYAC team took away the top honors in the combined score. The second place trophy went to the Privateers of the State University of New York Maritime College while the squad from Pace University finished in third. Manhattan College and Lehman College rounded out the field along with NJIT.

The Highlander women host Sacred Heart in their home opener on Saturday, October 27. Next up for the men will be Howard University on November 3 when they travel with the women to Mount Saint Mary's University (MD) for their first dual meet of the season.
