NJIT Scores 6-1 Men's Tennis Win Over Hartford

TENAFLY, NJ - NJIT scored wins in the first five singles and in the first two doubles slots to claim a 6-1 win over visiting Hartford Saturday night in the Tenafly Racquet Club.

The win lifted NJIT to 8-3 in 2007-08, including 5-2 in the 2008 portion of the schedule that began on February 2.

The Highlanders dominated their five singles victories against Hartford and the Hawks' Ed Hoey needed three sets to defeat NJIT freshman Doug Zytko at number six. The scores were 6-4, 3-6, 10-8 for Hoey.

On the plus side for NJIT, Steve Erickson took the top spot, 6-0, 6-1; Jonathan Lang was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at number two; Cosmin Chiujdea won third singles, 6-0, 6-1; Anthony Tunnero pitched a shutout, 6-0, 6-0, in the fourth spot; and, Siddharth Verma (#5) was a 6-2, 6-2 winner.

Tunnero and Chiujdea teamed for an 8-2 first doubles win, while Lang and Erickson clinched the doubles point with an 8-1 win in the second spot. Hoey and Fil Miletic scored an 8-5 third doubles win over NJIT's Zytko and Ramy Lawandy.

The Highlanders will host Rhode Island in the Tenafly Racquet Club on March 8 in a 7 pm start. The teams split two matches last season. In the fall of 2006, Rhode Island blanked the Highlanders, 7-0, but NJIT bounced back for a 4-3 win at Rhode Island on February 3, 2007.
