MELBOURNE, FL - Jonathan Lang and Cosmin Chiujdea scored singles wins for New Jersey Institute of Technology, but Saint Louis prevailed, 5-2, in men's tennis Thursday, as NJIT closed out its Spring Break trip to Florida.
Lang rallied for a win at second singles, dropping the first set, 6-0, before fighting back, 6-2 and 10-5.
Chiujdea prevailed at third singles, splitting the first two sets, 6-2 and 4-6, before taking the tiebreaker, 10-2.
Saint Louis won first singles in a tiebreaker, as well, with its Felipe Acosta nipping NJIT's top man, Steve Erickson, 2-6, 6-3 and 10-8.
Saint Louis won the last three singles in straight sets and also took all three doubles contests, with the closest result coming at first doubles, where SLU's Paul Feder and Sean McManus needed a tiebreaker to edge Lang and Chiujdea, 8-7 (10-8).
The Highlanders, now even at 8-8 in 2006-07, their first year of competition at the Division I level, are slated to host St. Francis of New York on Saturday at 7 pm in the Tenafly Racquet Club.
