TENAFLY, NJ - New Jersey Institute of Technology men's tennis returned home and scored a dominant 7-0 win over visiting St. Francis of New York Saturday evening at the Tenafly Racquet Club.
The Highlanders, who spent the earlier part of the week on a four-match Spring Break trip to Florida, thrived back in their home state, taking all six singles matches--four by 6-0, 6-0 counts--as well as all three doubles matches--two by 8-0 scores.
The win lifted NJIT, which is playing its first season of competition at the NCAA Division I level, to 9-8 in 2006-07.
First singles was the tightest contest of the evening, as NJIT's star freshman Steve Erickson subdued Jindrich Chaloupka, 7-5, 6-4. Jonathan Lang was a 6-2, 6-0 winner for NJIT at second singles, while Cosmin Chiujdea, Steve Arlt, Ramy Lawandy and Tim Weiman were 6-0, 6-0 winners at third through sixth singles, respectively.
Lang and Chiujdea won first doubles, 8-4, while Erickson and Lawandy took second doubles, 8-0, and Arlt and Weiman did the same in the third slot.
The Highlanders will return to action on Saturday, March 24, at 7 pm, when they host Wagner in the Tenafly Racquet Club.
