FORT MYERS, FL - The NJIT men's tennis team closed its Spring Break Florida trip with a matches at 10 am and 2 pm on Thursday and the Highlanders came up short both times, falling to Stony Brook, 7-0, in the first match of the day and then to Wisconsin- Green Bay, 6-1, in the later match.
Stony Brook (5-4) won all three doubles matchups and all six singles contests. At first singles, NJIT's Steve Erickson came relatively close, but Stony Brook's Artem Baradach prevailed, 7-5, 7-5. At third singles, Ivan Rummel of the Seawolves was stretched in the first set, 7-5, but closed out Cosmin Chiujdea of NJIT, 6-2, in the second set. Stony Brook won decisively in the other four singles.
Baradach and Alex Markovich topped Anthony Tunnero and Chiujdea in first doubles, 8-4. And Rummel and Jon Epstein defeated Jonathan Lang and Erickson, 8-5, in the second slot.
The Highlanders played Wisconsin-Green Bay later in the day on Thursday.
