Highlanders Take Siena, 5-2

NEWARK, NJ - The NJIT men's tennis team raised its season record to 3-1 with a solid 5-2 win over visiting Siena Saturday on the Fleisher Athletic Center Courts.

Steve Erickson at first singles and second doubles and Jonathan Lang at second singles and second doubles were dual winners for the Highlanders, who took the first four singles spots and the second and third doubles for the victory.

Erickson beat Siena's Jeremy Duel in singles, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 and then combined with Lang for an 8-5 doubles win over Stefan Putmera and Rob Cooperman. Lang was a decisive winner, 6-1, 6-2 over Nick Rutherford of Siena in second singles.

The other singles winners for NJIT were Cosmin Chiujdea at number three, 6-1, 6-1, and Anthony Tunnero, 6-2, 6-4 in the fourth slot.

In addition to Erickson and Lang's win at first doubles, the Highlanders claimed the doubles point with an 8-1 win at number three for Tim Weiman and Sid Verma.

The Highlanders are off from competition for nearly two weeks before taking part in the Lehigh Tournament October 13 and 14 in Bethlehem, PA.
