Highlanders Compete at Lehigh Fall Tennis Invitational

BETHLEHEM, PA - The New Jersey Institute of Technology men's tennis team played doubles matches against their counterparts from Monmouth and Mount Saint Mary's of Maryland, plus singles against Monmouth in the opening day action at the Lehigh Fall Tennis Invitational.

Play continues on Sunday with a field that includes the host team, as well as NJIT, Monmouth, Mount Saint Mary's and Hamilton on the men's side. There is also a women's field, but NJIT is competing only in the men's field.

In doubles play, the Highlanders gained a split, taking a 2-1 decision from Monmouth, while losing to Mount Saint Mary's, also 2-1. In singles action, played separately from the doubles, Monmouth defeated NJIT, 5-1.

In the doubles win over Monmouth, the NJIT freshman combo of Steve Erickson and Cosmin Chiujdea won first doubles, 8-6, while Ramy Lawandy and Keith Tracy were 8-4 winners for the Highlanders in third doubles.

Against Mount Saint Mary's, Tracy and Lawandy again scored for the Highlanders, taking an 8-4 win in the third spot.

Moving to singles, Ramy Lawandy continued his winning ways, claiming a 6-3, 7-5 win in fourth singles over Monmouth's Tim McLane.

Sunday's schedule has not been announced, but play begins at 9:30 am.
