RIVERDALE, NY - The Highlanders marked the start of the 2007-08 women's indoor track and field season defeating St. John's (NY) 27-18 and Wagner 32-5 as host Manhattan took a 55-23 victory at the Manhattan Open Saturday afternoon.
NJIT sprinter Lesley Hendricks picked up a first place finish in the 300 meter dash. Hendricks set a school-record crossing the finish line with a time of 47.1.
Picking up another first place finish for NJIT came in the 600 meter race was freshman Nicole Kerrison. Kerrison set a school and freshman record with a time of 1:47.4.
Setting another freshman school-record was Daisy Gallegos in the shot-put with a distance of 5.00 while Katherine Joseph recorded a 49.2 finish in the 300 meter dash.
Denaya Hemmingway set a school-record in the shot-put with a throw of 9.84 picking up points for the Highlanders.
The Highlanders return to action on Sunday, December 2 at the Seton Hall Invitational at 10am in South Orange, NJ.
