HOBOKEN, NJ - New Jersey Institute of Technology men's volleyball team came up short Wednesday night as it dropped a 3-0 (30-26, 30-24, 30-27) decision to Stevens in the Canavan Arena.
Stevens Institute of Technology's men's volleyball team won the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association title for the third time in five years on April 3, 2007 sweeping third-seeded Eastern Mennonite and receiving the conference's automatic bid to the 2007 Molten Division III Men's Invitational Volleyball Championship, which will be hosted by Juniata College on April 13-14.
The Ducks' Scott Stoner led his team with 18 kills while teammate Joe Trinsey recorded 11 kills. Michael Schulte posted a game-high 40 assists in the victory.
Freshman Highlander Charles Bell posted a team-high 11 kills along with nine digs, but it wasn't enough to overcome the offensive strength of Stevens.
Outside hitter Eduardo Welter followed with 10 kills and five digs. Sophomore setter Rodrigo Correa notched 23 assists.
Stevens hit .237 over the three games compared to .150 for the Highlanders. NJIT combined for 8.0 total blocks while Stevens collected 6.0. Greg Wagner led the way with four blocks while three Ducks were tied with three blocks apiece.
