NEWARK, NJ - New Jersey Institute of Technology junior middle Amobi Armstrong was named to the 2008 All-Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association second team, the conference announced.
Armstrong, a native of Corinth, Gross Islet, St Lucia, is a superb pure athlete who is an emerging impact player. He combines exceptional leaping ability, hang time and hard hitting ability
He combined for 297 kills on 666 total attacks for a .251 hitting percentage. Amobi has reached double-figures in 18 out of 26 matches this season posting a season-high 18 kills on three different occasions.
Armstrong was joined on the All-EIVA second team with Mark Burik, Luke Maloney and Ryan Kwiatkowski from George Mason; Nick Rivett and Jordan Varee of Saint Francis (NY); Andy Sipe from Springfield; Matt Werle of Juniata and senior Jon Wintermeyer from NYU.
The Highlanders return to action in the EIVA playoff semifinals against George Mason, ranked 12th in the nation, on Thursday at 4:30 pm. The semifinal matches and championship match on April 26 will be hosted by Penn State, ranked first in the nation.
