BRONX, NY - The New Jersey Institute of Technology men's cross country team swept the top six individual spots and collected team victories over Concordia, Dominican and Yeshiva at the NJIT Classic, conducted on Sunday at Van Cortlandt Park.
NJIT junior Pierre Bastie led the field over the 8-kilometer course, covering the distance in 29:31, and finishing 1:45 of the second-place finisher, his teammate Duc Tran (31:16).
It was a close fight for third place, with Mark Pares taking the honor at 32:54, followed closely by NJIT teammates Dave Kloc (4th; 32:57) and Mike Genuaer (5th; 33:00).
Will Ehrhardt rounded out the Highlanders' sweep of the top six spots, covering the course in 33:32. A pair of Concordia runners--William Wol and Michael Lavoie--interrupted NJIT's dominance, before NJIT's Kevin Garbie (34:28) grabbed ninth place.
The team scoring was: NJIT 15, Concordia 48; NJIT 15, Dominican 50; and NJIT 15, Yeshiva, Inc.
Coach Al Alonso's squad is slated to return to action on Saturday, September 24, at the Philadelphia Metro Championships at Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia.
