BRONX, NY - New Jersey Institute of Technology's Umar Saeed capped a splendid freshman season by earning All-East honors with a 24th-place finish Saturday in the IC4A University men's cross country championship race at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx on Saturday.
Saeed was one of five NJIT runners who competed in the 8-kilometer IC4A race, won by Tyler Raymond of Manhattan College in 25:24.6.
Running against a field of 186 runners, overwhelmingly from NCAA Division I schools, Saeed was 24th, at 26.41, a new NJIT record for the fabled Van Cortlandt Park course.
Duc Tran (29:55.3), David Kloc (30:30.1), Mark Pares (32:04.0) and Matthew Magnifico (32:06.7) also competed for NJIT.
Six different championship races were held on Saturday in conjunction with the IC4A and ECAC championships. Three IC4A championship races were held for men and three ECAC championship races were held for women. It was the 97th annual IC4A championship meet and the 21st annual ECAC meet.
