Highlanders Compete in Top Cross Country Meet

Iona Meet of Champions - Men's Results

BRONX, NY - The NJIT men's cross country team competed Saturday in one of the region's top races, running in the 13th annual Brother John "Paddy" Doyle Meet of Champions hosted by Iona at Van Cortlandt Park.

Iona, which ranked third in the national preseason poll, topped the team standings Saturday paced by an individual first-place finish by Mohamed Khadraoui. His winning time over the 8k course was 25:02.7, three-tenths of a second ahead of American's Steve Hallinan.

Finishing immediately behind Iona were Brown (77 points) and Penn State (93).

NJIT finished 19th, topped by senior Duc Tran's finish at 157th (105th in the scoring) in a time of 29:35.1. Freshman Stefan Montalvo was the next Highlander across the finish line at 30:25.6.

Senior Matthew Magnifico's time was 30:49.6, with Brad Leonhardt, Michael Gurlacz, Mark Givens, Drew Pennyfeather, John Zawisa, Jamil Wilkins, Chadwick Munroe, Bryan Louvado and Peter Klabe all bunched closely in times ranging from 31:41.3 to 35:15.8.

NJIT will support the Healthy Neighbors 5k in Hoboken, NJ, on October 6 before hosting the Highlander Invitational the next day in Newark's Branch Brook Park. The men's race on October 7 starts at 10:30 am.
