NJIT Men Run Second in Division I at CTCs

POMONA, NJ - Paced by freshman Stefan Montalvo, the NJIT men placed second among Division I schools in the Collegiate Track Conference cross country championship hosted by Richard Stockton College on Saturday.

Montalvo covered the 6k course in 21:18.83 to finish second individually behind John Kenworthy (21:10.81) of Sacred Heart, which finished ahead of NJIT in the team standings. Montalvo set a school record with his time of 21:18.83.

Matthew Magnifico was eighth for the Highlanders at 21:38.68 and Duc Tran came in at 22:03.38, which was good for 10 points.

Bryan Louvado (22:09.23) earned 11 points for NJIT, while the other Highlander scorers were: Mark Givens (12 pts; 22:32.26); Chadwick Munroe (13 pts; 22:52.48); and, Jamil Wilkins (22:57.97).

Montalvo and Magnifico were named to the CTC all-tournament team.

Next week the Highlanders will compete in the national Division I Independent cross country championship race, which will be hosted by Texas-Pan American in Rancho Viejo, TX.
