South Dakota State Tops Highlanders

NEWARK, NJ - Sophomore forward Jennifer Warkenthien scored 18 points, leading two double-figure scorers for visiting South Dakota State in its 72-47 win over New Jersey Institute of Technology in the 2006-07 home finale in the Estelle and Zoom Fleisher Athletic Center Saturday afternoon.

NJIT's senior co-captains Kelly Crowe and Aine O'Dwyer were honored in pre-game ceremonies recognizing their final home appearances. Crowe finished with 12 points--10 in the second half. O'Dwyer netted four points and pulled down six rebounds.

The Jackrabbits (23-5) got 13 points from Maria Boever and 10 points from senior guard Megan Vogel. Warkenthien's game-high nine rebounds paced South Dakota State on the boards.

The Highlanders, who closed out the home part of their first season of Division I competition, were led by Jill Dickinson's 13 points. In addition to Crowe's 12 points, NJIT got seven points from freshman forward Taiwo Oyelola who came off the bench and saw 17 minutes of action. Crowe was the team leading rebounder with seven.

Crowe, NJIT all-time leading scorer ends her career with (1,497) points and (282) career steals, (443) free throws made and (659) attempted and ranks in career assists, games, field goals, field goal attempts, and three-point field goals made and attempted.

The Jackrabbits Warkenthien scored 10 of her 18 points in the first half as South Dakota State built a 32-20 lead.

O'Dwyer dished out a game-high seven assists while sophomore guard Jill Dickinson chipped in four points. Four highlanders netted two points apiece in the loss.
