NCAA Division I Independent women's basketball Player/Newcomer of the Week

OREM, UT - NJIT freshman guard Adriana Johnson is the national NCAA Division I Independent women's basketball Newcomer of the Week, award coordinator Clint Burgi of Utah Valley announced.

Utah Valley's Sandy Marvin earned Player of the Week averaging 24.0 points and 5.0 rebounds as she was selected MVP at the Air Force Classic.

Johnson combined for 17 points (8.5pg) while grabbing five rebounds and dishing out two assists in 34 minutes of action last week.

In the Highlanders 58-44 upset over defending America East Conference champion UMBC Johnson recorded a career-high 11 points as NJIT recorded their first win of the season.

5-foot-4 Johnson shot 4-for-7 from the field and sank two treys in 18 minutes of action off the bench.

Johnson chipped in six points against Lafayette in a 61-53 loss to Lafayette.

Johnson and the Highlanders return to action on Saturday, December 8, when they travel to Bethlehem, PA to take on Lehigh. The game is scheduled for a 3:30pm tip-off.
