Box Score

NEWARK, NJ - Quinnipiac freshman Lauren Peacock's tally in the 15th minute was the only scoring in the visiting Bobcats' 1-0 women's soccer win over New Jersey Institute of Technology Sunday afternoon on Lubetkin Field.

Quinnipiac, 2-1 on the season, got the game's only goal at 14:02, as Olivia Kravitz sent a pass ahead to Sara Lawlor, who had beaten the NJIT defense and pushed the play from the top of the box to the doorstep of the Highlander goal.

Seeing Peacock open and running onto the play, Lawlor, who was one-on-one with NJIT goalkeeper Sadie Mele, sent a short ground pass to Peacock. The valiant Mele, still down from stopping Lawlor, got a hand on the pass, but couldn't completely break up the play before Peacock tucked a shot into the goal.

The Bobcats had to be very good to get the ball past Mele, who finished with 12 saves, several that drew deserved applause from the crowd.

Mele made eight of her saves in the first half, which reflected the substantial territorial edge held by Quinnipiac in the opening 45 minutes.

Although NJIT made some attacking forays in the first half, the Highlanders had difficulty stringing together series of passes.

The Highlanders were more dangerous in the second half and they appeared to have more energy than Quinnipiac over the last 20 minutes, putting together more passes and frequently getting the ball into the attacking third.

However, Quinnipiac did a good job protecting the area in front of goalkeeper Chloe Beiser, who did not have to make any saves in recording her first shutout of the season.

NJIT will look for its first win of 2007 when it hosts Iona in 7 pm match Saturday, September on Lubetkin Field.
