NJIT Opens Season in Tri-Match at Baruch

NEW YORK - The New Jersey Institute of Technology women’s swimming team opened its season with a tri-meet at Baruch with St. Joseph’s of Long Island on Friday night.

The Highlanders were beaten by St. Joseph’s, 62-35, and by Baruch, 54-37.

Record-setting senior captain Ana Ossa registered three first-place finishes for NJIT, while freshman Alaine Fairweather collected a pair of firsts.

Swimming in Baruch’s 25-meter pool, Ossa won the 200 individual medley (2:40.87), the 100 butterfly (1:13.37) and the breaststroke (1:23.45). Fairweather topped the field in the 200 freestyle (2:41.89) and 100 freestyle (1:08.19).

The Highlanders will host College of Staten Island on Monday, November 7 at 6 pm in the Fleisher Athletic Center pool.<
