NEWARK, NJ - The New Jersey Institute of Technology women’s swimming team opened its home schedule by hosting College of Staten Island on Monday night.
NJIT got a pair of individual first-place finishes from freshman Alaine Fairweather, a first from senior captain Ana Ossa and a first in the 200-yard freestyle relay from a team comprised of Fairweather, Ossa, Lauren Thompson and Leigh Ann Zangara.
Fairweather’s individual firsts were in the 200-yard freestyle (2:26.22) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:18.77). Ossa captured the 200-yard individual medley (2:33.27) and she was a strong second in the 100 freestyle (59:09). The Highlanders' winning team in the 200-yard freestyle relay turned in a time of 2:05.00.
CSI, with seven firsts, won the meet, 125-63.
The Highlanders will host Drew and Ocean County College on Wednesday at 6 pm in the Fleisher Athletic Center pool.
