NEWARK, NJ - The New Jersey Institute of Technology women’s swimming team hosted its first tri-meet of the season, taking on Drew University and Ocean County College.
Senior captain Ana Ossa had a strong night for the Highlanders, capturing three first-place finishes. Freshman Alaine Fairweather also grabbed a first in competition with the two visitors.
Ossa won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:28.12, more than five seconds better than her time in the same event two nights earlier. She was first in the 500-yard freestyle at 5:52.33 and in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:14.31).
Fairweather’s 27.30 in the 50-yard freestyle added another first-place finish to the strong start of her college career. The freshman also had a second-place finish in 100-yard butterfly matched up against Drew (first vs. Ocean, at 1:16.17).
Lauren Thompson was second in the 1,000-yard freestyle and Lorin Diaz got a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle matched with Ocean.
The meet scores were Drew 64, NJIT 29 and Ocean 47, NJIT 37. Only the matchup vs. Drew counts in NJIT’s won-loss record, since Ocean is a two-year college.
The Highlanders will swim at Pace on Sunday at 3 pm.
