THROGGS NECK, NY - The New Jersey Institute of Technology women’s swimming team posted its first meet victory of the season, defeating the State University of New York Maritime College, 73-58, at Maritime’s campus in the Bronx Wednesday night.
The night began well for the Highlanders, as the 200-yard medley relay team of Lorin Diaz, Ana Ossa, Alaine Fairweather and Chemu Koech swam to victory in the first event of the competition.
Ossa, the record-setting senior captain of the Highlanders, then won the 200-yard freestyle by more than 17 seconds at 2:22.12, before Diaz and Koech placed 1-2 in the 50-yard freestyle.
Fairweather, NJIT’s standout freshman, won the 200-yard individual medley by 14 seconds (2:49.30). Fairweather later won the 100-yard butterfly (1:20.62) and Diaz covered the 100-yard backstroke in 1:21.67, for another first. Ossa capped the NJIT win with a winning time of 1:13.11 in the 100-yard backstroke.
The Highlanders will visit Arcadia University in Pennsylvania on Saturday for a tri-meet that will also include William Paterson.
