January 28, 2006

NEWARK, NJ - Record-setting senior Ana Ossa, swimming her last collegiate competition in the Fleisher Athletic Center pool, added one more school record to her lengthy resume with a new NJIT mark in the 200-yard freestyle.

Ossa swam the distance in 2:05.92 in the Highlanders’ women’s teams-only meet against the University of Bridgeport, won by UB, 109-76, on Saturday.

She also captured first place in the 50-yard breast stroke and the 100-yard breast stroke.

The team of Leigh Ann Zangara, Andrea Alcalde, Dayana Escalante and Meagan Hopper scored first-place points for NJIT in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Freshman Alaine Fairweather captured seconds in the 50-yard butterfly, the 1,000-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly. Zangara was second in the 100-yard back stroke.

The Highlanders will close out the schedule with a pair of meets on the road, followed by the Metropolitan Conference Championships in mid-February. Next on the slate is a February 3 visit to Vassar.
