NEWARK, NJ - The New Jersey Institute of Technology women's swimming team hosted its first meet of the 2008 season, taking on Manhattan Saturday afternoon at the Estelle and Zoom Fleisher Athletic Center.

Highlander Teresa Higgins set a personal-best in the 500-free picking up the only first place finish of the night for the Highlanders clocking in with a time of 6:25.75 and recording nine points.

In the 200 medley relay, which consisted of -- Sadie Mele, Karen Cilento, Bonnie Fiallo and Ashley Craig -- just missed breaking the school-record by 1/100 of a second. The school-record was set on February 19, 2005 by Lara Garnant, Ana Ossa, Lauren Jelinek and Mindy Pence with a time of 2:09.93.

"Our hard training is nearing the end. Though they are tired, our women continue to perform well. I expect an excellent championship meet", said head coach Eric Rasmussen.

The Highlanders will travel to Rutgers for the Metropolitan Swimming Conference Championships on February 22, 23, and 24.
