NEW BRITAIN, CT - The New Jersey Institute of Technology women's swimming team opened the 2006-07 campaign in the two-day Blue Devil Duals hosted by Central Connecticut State University over the weekend.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Leigh Ann Zangara, Lauren Thompson, Meagan Hopper and Alaine Fairweather came in 18th in a time of 2:09.89.
Lauren Thompson was 26th in the 500-yard freestyle (7:54.07). The Highlanders had three finishers in the 50-yard freestyle--Kristy Haeckel (32nd; 29.37); Jessica Ware (40th; 36.90) and Hopper (41st; 36.95).
Thompson, Zangara, Fairweather and Jackie McCaffrey were 17th in the 200-yard medley relay at 2:35.42. In the 100-yard backstroke, Zangara, Lorin Diaz and Thompson took 20th, 21st and 22nd, respectively and Fairweather was 16th in 100-yard butterfly (1:19.38), rounding out the Highlanders action.
NJIT will host Baruch and Montclair State on Saturday at noon.
