MIAMI GARDENS, FL - The NJIT women's tennis team rolled to its 11th win of 2007-08, opening its Spring Break trip to Florida with a 5-1 win at St. Thomas (FL).
The Highlanders swept the doubles competition and took every singles slot except number six to open their three-match trip. NJIT has won four in a row and eight of nine since opening the 2008 calendar year with losses at Princeton and Army.
Fanny Aizier (#4) and Dasa Stanimirovic (#5) were 6-0, 6-0 winners for the Highlanders, who also got singles points from Iulia Doci (#1; 6-2, 6-0) and Fatima Kasem (#3; 6-2, 6-1). The second singles slot was not completed, as NJIT's Isha Toor won the first set, 6-2, but was trailing the second set, 2-4, when the contest was halted.
Chiori Koike and Aizier teamed for an 8-0 win at third doubles, while Doci and Kasem won in the number one slot, 8-2--a score that was matched by Toor and Stanimirovic at number two.
NJIT is scheduled to face Colgate on Wednesday in a match hosted by Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers.
