Women's Tennis Competes at Fairfield Doubles Festival



Flight one finalists Iulia Doci and Isha Toor

FAIRFIELD, CT - The New Jersey Institute of Technology women's tennis team opened their 2007-08 season at the Fairfield Doubles Festival at the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts this afternoon.

In the first flight of the day, junior Iulia Doci and sophomore Isha Toor defeated Hartford's duo of Racquel Casino-Ortiz and Kasey Michaels, 8-0. The duo advanced to the semifinals where they defeated UConn's BreAnn Cheung and Emily Herb 9-7 making it to the final round where they were topped by Quinnipiac's pair, Mary Wilson and Adrienne Markinson, 8-2.

In the second flight, Highlanders Dasa Stanimirovic and Fanny Aizier advanced to the semifinals where they were overtaken by UConn's Kelley LoRusso and Katie Moritz 8-2. In the first round, they were defeated by Hartford's Jess Ruggles and Hali Dorfman, 8-2.

In the final round of the day, NJIT was upset by Hartford's Michelle Tafur and Nikki Haynel, 8-6.

Quinnipiac captured the first flight, as UConn took back-to-back victories in the second and third flights.

The Highlanders return to action Saturday, September 15, when they travel to Lawrenceville, NJ to take on Rider. The match is scheduled to start at noon.
