Track & Field Competes at CTC Championship

NEW HAVEN, CT - The NJIT men's and women's indoor track & field teams competed at the Collegiate Track Conference (CTC) Championships at Yale University this past weekend.

The women's team finished 11th with 27 points while the men placed 12th with 26. A total 19 teams were represented at the meet.

Sophomore Leslie Hendricks set a school-record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.90 and took a eighth place finish in the 400-meter dash crossing the finish line at 1:03.95.

NJIT's Amanda Hefferan set a school-record in the 3,000 meter run and 5,000 meter run. In the 3,000 meter run, she placed fifth picking up four points for the Highlanders with a time of 11:22.23 and in the 5,000 meter run she finished fourth recording five points.

Etti Ebewo and Denaya Hemmingway placed 2nd and 7th in the shot put for the Highlanders.

The distance medley team consisting of Katherine Joseph, Hendricks, Dasiy Gallegos and Hefferan placed 4th with a school-record of 14:06.17.

Rookie Mark Givens became NJIT's first CTC conference champion winning the 400-meter dash setting a school-record clocking in with a time of 50.44. Givens also picked up three points for the Highlanders in the 200-meter dash with a sixth-place finish.

Freshman Chadwick Munroe set a freshman record in the 800 meter run with an 11th place finish with a time of 2:00.89. Babatunde Busari also represented the Highlanders placing 19th.

NJIT returns to action on March 2, at the Seton Hall Last Chance Meet in South Orange, NJ.
