STATEN ISLAND, NY - NJIT's Mark Givens and Lesley Hendricks finished in the top 10 of their respected events as the men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Wagner Invitational Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore Hendricks finished fifth in the 100 meter dash (13.73) and eighth in the 200 meter dash (27.90). Freshman Givens placed fifth in the 400 meter dash (51.49) and the 200 meter dash (22.50).
Rookie Amanda Hefferan took first in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of (12:16.90).
Sophomore Umar Saeed finished in the top 10 of the 1500 meter race at (4:10.00). Brad Leonhardt and Stefan Montalvo finished side by side (4:30.00; 4:40.00).
Freshman Katherine Joseph had three eighth place finishes coming in the 100/400 meter hurdles and the long jump.
Senior Denaya Hemingway put up a fourth place finish in the discus throw (23.31m) while teammate Eti Ebewo finished sixth (22.07m).
The Highlanders will return to action when they co-host the Engineers Invitational with Saint Peter's on Saturday at Lincoln Park in Jersey City, NJ.
