KINGS POINT, NY - The NJIT men's and women's track and field teams competed at the 8th Annual Coach Omeltchenko Invitational Saturday afternoon.
NJIT junior distance runner Umar Saeed recorded the highest Highlander finish of the day taking a first place finish in the 3000 meter run clocking in with a time of 8:53.55 seconds before Delhi's Chris Mason.
Rookie Mark Givens finished in the top 20 in two events - 15th in the 200 meter dash and 19th in the 400 meter dash.
In the pole volt competition Steve Schreyer picked up a third place finish clearing the height of 4.10m behind Manhattan's duo of Nikolay Tkachenko 4.60m and DeSean HooShing 4.25m.
Freshman Josh-Erik Dolisca recorded a sixth place in the men's shot put with a distance of 12.61m while in the discus throw he added a 17th place finish with a throw of 33.96m.
In the women's competition, Amanda Hefferan finished in the top 15 of her two races placing ninth in the 3000 meter run at 10:58.73 and 15th in the 1 mile run with a time of 5:46.90.
Senior Eti Ebewo finished fifth in the shot put with a distance of 10.61m and 11th in the discus throw. Classmate Denaya Hemingway finished ninth in the discus throw.
Freshman, Nicole Kerrison recorded an eighth place finish in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:12.50.
The next competition for both teams is next Saturday at the CTC Outdoor Championship. The race will be held at DeSales in Allentown, PA.
