Hefferan sets school-record in 3000 meter steeplechase

NEW HAVEN, CT - The NJIT men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Yale Springtime Invitational, hosted by Yale, Sunday afternoon.

Freshman distance runner Amanda Hefferan set a new school-record in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:50.17, placing third for the Highlanders. She surpassed her old mark of 11:56.92 ran at the CTC Championship on April 21.

Seniors Ettie Ebewo and Denaya Hemingway finished side by side -- eighth and ninth place in the women's shot put.

Weight thrower, Josh-Erik Dolisca finished in the top 10 of the men's shot put with a distance of 14.62m, setting a new school-record and breaking his old mark of 12.50m on March 2 at the Seton Hall Last Chance meet. Dolisca placed 18th in the men's discus with a throw of 31.85m.

Freshman Jamil Wilkins added a seventh place finish in the 110 meter hurdles.

The Highlanders will return to action on May 9, when they travel to the National Independent Conference Tournament in Provo, Utah.
