QUEENS, NY - Visiting New Jersey Institute of Technology women's volleyball team fell short 3-0 (30-15, 30-21, 30-18) to St. John's University in the first match of the St. John's Classic in women's volleyball action today.
St. John's women's volleyball team is coming off their best season in school history and has been selected to finish third this season in the BIG EAST. Hui Ping Huang, who was selected as Co-Player of the Year notched 11 kills on just 16 attempts with one error for a .625 hitting percentage.
Highlander Kristy Haeckel led the NJIT attack posting 14 kills along with five digs but it wasn't enough to overcome the offensive strength of St. John's.
St. John's was led by Valeria Kovalea who posted 16 kills while setter Wioleta Lesczcynska piled up 42 assists.
Libero Sabrina Baby tallied up a match-high 17 digs while Agnieszka Pregowska and Kubra Tanrikulu each collected four kills apiece.
NJIT combined for four service aces and eight block assists. Hornstein and Baby each recorded two aces.
The St. John's Classic continues on Saturday. NJIT will take on Virginia Tech at 9 am and Fairfield at 5 pm.
