WASHINGTON, DC - New Jersey Institute of Technology women's volleyball team made history Friday night, registering its first victory as an NCAA Division I program in a 3-0 (30-19, 30-25, 30-23) win over Manhattan in the American Invitational, hosted by American University.
The Highlanders grabbed game one with a 30-19 victory behind freshman Kasha Hornstein who posted six kills on eight attempts with one error. Aggie Pregowska recorded five kills in the game while Danielle Thompson had 15 assists. For Manhattan, Sherryta Stokes recorded three kills in the game.
The second and third games started in much the same fashion as the first game. The Highlanders won both 30-25, 30-23.
The Highlanders were led by Pregowska with 14 kills, four aces and four digs, while Hornstein posted her first double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs. Thompson had a match-high 38 assists while teammate Kristy Haeckel recorded six aces.
For Manhattan, Whitney Judkins posted nine kills, while Ashley Watson recorded 14 digs. Setter Alyssa Getzel notched 30 assists.
The Highlanders will return to action tomorrow when they take on American at 11:00am and will wrap up the tournament at 5:00pm against Howard.
