Cal State Bakersfield Sweeps Highlanders in Independent Tournament

OREM, UT - Cal State Bakersfield's Kate McWhorter and Jodi Hardin shared game-high honors with 13 kills as the Roadrunners swept NJIT, 3-0, in the final match of the Division I Women's Volleyball Independent Tournament Friday night in Utah.

The Highlanders return to action tomorrow when they face Providence. NJIT defeated Providence, 3-2, on Oct. 26, for what may have been the most impressive women's volleyball win by the Highlanders since they began Division I competition at the start of the 2006.

Sophomore Kristy Haeckel posted a team-high eight kills while Agnieszka Pregowska and Katrina Hornstein added five. Sophomore setter Erica Schultz combined for 14 assists.

NJIT libero, Sabrina Baby recorded 16 digs, two shy of game-high honors set by Cal State Bakersfield's Mystie McNaughton who posted 18. Haeckel notched 14 digs and a team-high three block assists.

Roadrunner Gabe Curtis posted a game-high 44 assists, 10 digs. Teammate Kayla Williamson added 10 digs of her own. Rosemary Stribling posted a game-high four blocks.

The Highlanders will return to action tomorrow when they face Providence at 1pm (MT). Host Utah Valley will face Cal State Bakersfield in Saturday's championship match. Utah Valley outlasted the Roadrunners in five games when the teams last met in October.
