Two Highlanders Receive Independent Volleyball Academic Honor

FARGO, ND - New Jersey Institute of Technology women's volleyball players Agnieszka Pregowska and Emese Gyuricza were named to the national NCAA Division I Independent All-Academic team for 2006, award coordinator Ryan Perreault of North Dakota State announced.

Pregowska, a sophomore graduate of Bridgewater-Raritan High School, and Gyuricza, a graduate of Mt. Pleasant Area High School in Pennsylvania, are both architecture majors.

Gyuricza is playing college volleyball for the first time after completing a college basketball career than encompassed two years at NJIT and two years at Centenary College in Louisiana. She has been a reserve for NJIT this season. A native of Szolnok, Hungary, she has a cumulative grade point average of 3.566.

Pregowska, who was all-conference and ranked fourth in NCAA Division II for kills per game as a freshman, is having another fine year in 2006, this time competing at the Division I level. She is second on NJIT in kills per game. A native of Warsaw, Poland, she has a 3.214 cumulative GPA.

In order to be eligible for the honor, student-athletes needed a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20, have reached at least sophomore athletic standing and be a starter or important reserve.

Other institutions represented on the 16-player team included Providence, UC Davis, IPFW, Utah Valley State, Texas-Pan American, North Dakota State and South Dakota State.
