MAYO'S SCHOOL-RECORD PACES HIGHLANDERS IN WAGNER INVITATIONAL

September 10, 2005

STATEN ISLAND, NY - Senior co-captain Elizabeth Mayo set the NJIT record for the Wagner Invitational, covering the hilly Clove Lake Park course in 22:03. Her 24th-place finish (all divisions) paced NJIT, which was third among Division II and III squads--the Highlanders' best finish at the Wagner meet.

Mayo was followed by senior co-captain Jady Alvarez (42nd; 24:48). Barbara DeLaCruz, running her first college meet, broke the school freshman record, finishing at 26:12. Freshman Becky Lindsey came in at 27:08 and senior Viviana Florea knocked more than four minutes off her 2004 time, finishing at 27:15.

NJIT's team average of 25:29 was its best ever on the Clove Lake Park course.

Next up for the Highlanders is the NJIT Classic on Sunday, September 18 at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. The women's race, which also includes Caldwell and Dominican (NY) is scheduled to go off at 10:15 am.
