BRONX, NY - Freshman Cara Constantino was the top runner for NJIT on Sunday as the Highlanders hosted the NJIT Classic on the fabled Van Cortlandt Park course.
The freshman finished seventh individually with a time of 22:55.7 in the 5k race, which was scored as a series of dual meets against guests Fairleigh Dickinson, Long Island University, St. Francis of New York and Saint Peter's.
FDU and Saint Peter's each edged NJIT, 25-30. St. Francis beat the Highlanders, 20-38 and LIU, which had the second, third, fourth and sixth-place finishers, scored a 17-44 win over the Highlanders. Cristin Mullen of St. Francis was the top woman runner, at 19:39.87.
Jackie McCaffrey was another top-10 finisher for NJIT, coming in ninth (23:00.17). Aileen Davila was 26th (30:57.12), Jessica Ware was 27th (31:15.34) and Dharshini Sivakumaran was 28th (36:06.54).
Next up for the Highlanders is the Iona Meet of Champions back at Van Cortlandt Park course on Saturday, September 30.
