Iona Meet of Champions - Women's Results

BRONX, NY - Freshman Amanda Hefferan led the NJIT women's cross country team Saturday in one of the region's top races, running in the 13th annual Brother John "Paddy" Doyle Meet of Champions hosted by Iona at Van Cortlandt Park.

Hefferan, who paced a Highlander team that had four freshmen among its top six finishers, finished 86th overall and was scored 59th, covering the 6k course in 24:28.5, as NJIT's team placed 18th in the top-notch field.

Penn State (48 points), Cornell (56) and Brown (62) were a level above the other teams, as Keene State was fourth with 174 points, nearly three times the total of third-place Brown.

Keene State's fourth-place team finish was due in large part to senior Breanne Lucey's individual first-place effort at 21:30.2.

Scoring 121st for NJIT was freshman Katherine Joseph, who covered the course in 28:40.8. Yet another freshman, Daisy Gallegos, was the third Highlander to cross the line (29:29.7).

Junior Jackie McCaffrey finished next with a time of 30:17.6, while freshman Nicole Kerrison came across at 31:31.3. Lesley Hendricks, a sophomore running college cross country for the first time, finished the course in 39:49.9, scoring 128th.

NJIT will support the Healthy Neighbors 5k in Hoboken, NJ, on October 6 before hosting the Highlander Invitational the next day in Newark's Branch Brook Park. The women's race on October 7 starts at 11:30 am.
