Highlanders Place Fifth at Fairfield Meet

FAIRFIELD, CT - The New Jersey Institute of Technology women's cross country team placed fifth at the 30th annual Victor F. Leeber, SJ, Invitational, hosted by Fairfield University on Saturday.

Freshman Cara Constantino was the top finisher for NJIT, placing 20th on the 5k course with a time of 22:04, which becomes the school record for the Fairfield course, as NJIT competed in the NCAA Division I field for the first time.

Jackie McCaffrey was the second Highlander finisher, covering the course in 22:33. Aileen Davila came in at 25:38, Jessica Ware came in at 29:24 and Dharshini Siyakumaran ran at 29:52.

Sacred Heart was the top finishing team in the race, which was won by the Pioneers' Kathleen Henry at 18:32.4.

NJIT's next action will be in a community service project on October 7 in the Healthy Neighbors 5k at Pier A in Hoboken, NJ.
