POMONA, NJ - Sophomore Cara Constantino was the top runner for the NJIT women, who placed second among Division I schools in the Collegiate Track Conference cross country championship hosted by Richard Stockton College on Saturday.
Constantino's time of 21:49.57 was a personal best and school record on the 5k course was good for seventh place in Saturday's race, whose Division I leader was Dana Troy of Sacred Heart, which finished ahead of NJIT in the team scoring.
Freshman Katherine Joseph collected nine points for the Highlanders on a time of 22:09.90. Classmate Daisy Gallegos came in at 22:25.07, which was good for 10 points.
Also scoring for NJIT were: freshman Nicole Kerrison (11 pts; 23.54.90); first-year runner, sophomore Lesley Hendricks (12 pts; 25:09.14); and, freshman Shawntel Young (13 pts; 25:31.69) improved her time by two minutes.
Next week the Highlanders will compete in the national Division I Independent cross country championship race, which will be hosted by Texas-Pan American in Rancho Viejo, TX.
