October 22, 2005

PHILADELPHIA - Seniors Jady Alvarez and Liz Mayo finished 18th and 19th, respectively, to lead the New Jersey Institute of Technology women’s cross country team at the annual Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference cross country championship race, held Saturday at Belmont Plateau.

Alvarez covered the 5,000-meter course in 22:14.80, less than a second ahead of Mayo’s 22:15.07 in the race for top honors among the Highlanders.

Freshman Katie Carroll wasn’t far behind her senior teammates, placing 22nd with a time of 22:56.55. Rounding out the NJIT top five were freshmen Aileen Davila (51stl 25:34.84) and Becky Lindsey (55th; 26:01.04).

Nyack senior Wendy Muckell won the race in 20:04.95, successfully defending her 2004 crown.

The NJIT runners competed as individuals, but the team was not listed in the team rankings due to the fact that NJIT is in its last year as a member of the CACC.
